cinque Terre

The name ‘Cinque Terre’ defines the coastal strip that stretches for 20 kilometres and connects Riomaggiore with Punta Mesco.

The five villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso, known for their beauty and uniqueness, stand on this jagged coastline.

Today, the area is characterised by more than 6,000 km of dry-stone walls with terraces planted with vines capable of producing a wine as special and prized as the place: the sciachetrà, a very famous sweet and liqueur-like raisin wine that has obtained the Denominazione di Origine Controllata and has been recognised as a Slow Food presidium.

The Cinque Terre have also been included in the Unesco World, Environmental and Cultural Heritage list and are now a National Park and Protected Marine Area with the aim of protecting culture, local traditions, the environment and the enhancement of biological resources.
