Sarzana

The medieval town of Sarzana is extremely well known for its cultural and artistic liveliness.

In the past, it was an important fortified village, a strategic crossroads from a religious, political and commercial point of view, and today it is still possible to appreciate the walls and the two fortifications: the Firmafede Fortress and the Sarzanello Fortress.

Sarzana offers its visitors cultural and food and wine initiatives and numerous antique and restoration workshops.

In August, it is the venue for the ‘Mostra Nazionale dell’Antiquariato’ (National Antiques Exhibition), in which extremely valuable pieces are displayed in the Firmafede fortress, and the ‘Soffitta nella Strada’ (Attic in the Street), the antiques exhibition that comes to life in the streets of the historic centre.

In September, it hosts the ‘Festival of the Mind’, a major European festival dedicated to creativity.
